This book
Kachina Dolls Cut and Color
presents various dolls with color recommendations for each. The booklet includes seven pages of three different Kachina dolls for you to color and cut out. One doll on the first page has been completely colored, and a second one has the red applied. The other 19 are ready to color. There is also a model for an easel to paste to the back of each cut out to make them stand.
There are thousands of Kachinas, and each has a name and a special meaning. The masks are first painted white, to stand for the sun, then bright colors are painted over the white. Many feathers are used on the masks and costumes, and the Kachinas often carry evergreen twigs, ears of corn, and the like.
The Zuni and some other Indians have Kachinas, but they seem to be most important among the Hopi.
The pre-owned book is published by Eukabi Publishers, copyright 1950, with drawings by Eugene H. Bischoff and text by Kay Bischoff. It is the first of a new series similar to the Read and Color series by the same artist and author. For a 65 year old book, it is in very good condition, except for the above noted colored dolls. The pages are somewhat yellowed due to age, but it adds to the charm.
