With this Cherokee Language Dictionary, you will learn the exact way a Cherokee pronounces Cherokee words.
From the earliest times, the Cherokee lived in a vast area of what is now the Southeastern United States. Their towns reached into areas now covered by the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, Virginia, and Tennessee. They called themselves Ani-yun-wi-ya, meaning the Real People or the Original People.
Sequoyah, a Cherokee, was the only person in history to have created a complete alphabet by themselves, without any help. In 1821, after twelve years of work, he completed this writing system for the Cherokee Indians. Sequoyah’s syllabary is made up of 85 characters each representing a sound in the Cherokee language.
