BRAVES AND BUFFALO Plains Indian Life in 1837 - This book is part of the Public Archives of Canada Series. In 1837, Alfred Miller, a young unknown artist from Baltimore, joined a group of fur traders and Indian trappers on a journey to the Oregon territory then still jointly occupied by the United States and Britain. Here Miller was to record with his brilliant water colours his Western travels and become known as the first man to paint the Rocky Mountains.
